Tarangire National Park
Safari Highlights:
View the magnificent herds of elephant in Tarangire, 118 km southwest of
Arusha. This national park is also
famous for its many ancient baobab
trees as well as the river which
runs through the Park and which
attracts thousands of animals from
the dry Maasai steppe during June
through September.
Marvel at the sheer numbers of migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and
eland awhich come to the Tarangire
River at that time, knowing that
here, always, there is water.
Gaze at dry-country antelope, such
as the stately fringe-eared oryx and
strange long-necked gerenuk which
are regularly observed here. Among
the 550 bird species recorded to
date in Tarangire Park are dazzling
yellow-collared lovebirds, the
endemic ashy starling and rufous-tailed
weaver and the ‘duetting’
red-and-yellow barbets.
See the world of Tarangire National
Park at any time of the year.
Although the dry season months of
June through September are
recommended for sheer numbers of
animals, the wet season offers
sightings of spectacular activity.
Encounter the people on cultural and special interest trips
around the park. These excursions include guided
walking safaris, day trips to Maasai
and Barabaig villages and visits to
the ancient rock paintings in the
vicinity of Kolo on the Dodoma road.
Enjoy
the comfort of your nights on safari
with AFRICAT, in
Lodges & Camps,
both within and outside the parks.
For following the great migration,
we use mobile camps, which enable us
to stay very close to the herds.
During cultural tours you may camp
in a village or spend a night in a
local, traditional house.
