AFRICAT Special - Green Season Safaris
Being so close to the Equator, Tanzania does not experience the dramatic summer/winter weather changes which are the norm in Europe and North America. Instead we have the ‘dry season’ and the ‘rainy season’.

The rainy season is split into the short rains over November and December and the long rains from late February to early May, though the exact timing varies from year to year. We at AFRICAT call this THE GREEN SEASON; it is a time of growth, great activity and renewal of life; and is our favorite time in the African bush.

Advantages of a Green Season Safari

Low season rates apply in all hotels and lodges on the safari circuits, as well as in the airline industry, thus making this the cheapest time to travel.

Very few tourists come to Tanzania during March, April and May, imagining grey skies and endless rain. In fact, there is only intermittent rainfall and many a sunny, cloudless day during these months when nature is at her most active.

A green season safari is truly an adventure! The track might be muddy, the skies may become suddenly overcast and the sun perhaps hide her face, but.......

Imagine being in the only vehicle around when millions of wildebeest and zebra, accompanied by their newborn, are grazing and softly communicating with each other on the newly-green plains of southern Serengeti…

Imagine being a private spectator to the mating ritual of lion, cheetah, giraffe, impala and many other fabulous African animals in their now undisturbed haunts…

Imagine the beauty of watching quietly as hundreds of weaver birds build their intricate nests in flat-topped acacia trees; being surrounded by a carpet of wild flowers; the only sound the chattering of busy birds…the only other spectators - perhaps a Martial eagle in a nearby tree, the circling Augar Buzzard, a pair of Pale Chanting Goshawks displaying their aerial acrobatic skills…

Imagine the Ngorongoro Highlands amid courting Whydahs and Widow birds, the long-tailed males resplendent in their mating plumage, leaping and posturing on their dancing mounds, each trying to outdo his neighbor in attracting the attention of their admiring females …

Enjoy the comfort of your nights on safari with AFRICAT, in Lodges & Camps, both within and outside the parks.  For following the great migration, we use mobile camps, which enable us to stay very close to the herds.
